Autumn context:

'Healthy Body, Healthy Mind'

NB Please see newsletter at the bottom of this page

This will focus on how to stay healthy and fit with the emphasis on healthy eating and exercise.  We will be asking the children for their ideas so that they will have full involvement in their learning. We will keep you posted ...

New developments: the children came up with great ideas...including finding out about the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

As we are in the process of revamping the current curriculum, the following sections are examples of the contexts covered last year.  These will change this year; we will be teaching one context per term. Keep an eye on this page for new developments.

SPRING 2 CONTEXT - 'FIT FOR A KING' (Tudors)

During this context Year 4 will study the Tudor period and life in the Tudor times. It will all kick off on Tuesday 12th March with a WOW day where the children and teachers will dress up like Tudors and participate in Tudor related activities. The day will end with the children giving their ideas and questions they would like answered about the Tudors and other monarchs in Britain and around the world in recent history. These ideas and questions will direct the learning over the next 6 - 8 weeks.

As part of our English work this half term the children acted out a scene from a play script, edited it in imovie then added a backdrop using green screen.

Here is an example of the work one of the groups produced. (You can scan and watch using a QR code reader)

Homework!

Friday is homework day

Spelling homework books will be sent home on Friday.  Children should learn the words ready for the test the following Friday; they should also complete one of the activities from the menu in the back of the book.  Please look after these books.  They MUST be returned by Friday.

Please encourage your child to use continuous cursive handwriting when practising their words

(see the link on the Curriculum ppp).

Maths - Active Learn (Abacus) homework will also be set each week on Fridays. This will be a mixture of online and paper homework.  Your child has been given a log in which they should have brought home. If they have any problems, just let us know. Please also encourage your child to regularly practise their times tables.

Reading - we teach reading and comprehension skills every day through our Guided Group Reading sessions which last for approximately 25 minutes.  In addition, we recommend that you encourage your child to read for pleasure for at least 10 minutes a day.  Children can read fiction and non-fiction books/magazines/comics/newspapers.  If necessary, pupils can borrow books from school (please make sure they bring them back when they have finished).

Home Learning -  please encourage your child to bring in any work they have done at home.  This could be related to school work or maybe a story/poem they have written, a picture/painting or even something related to Maths or Science and Technology...basically anything which they have done independently!

Year 4 will have P.E./Games on Monday and Wednesday for both classes.

The children will need trainers, black shorts/skirt/joggers/leggings/skorts and a white top.  During the colder months, please ensure your children bring warm jumpers/hoodies and tracksuit bottoms.

As we sometimes change PE days, children need to have their kit in school every day.  They can bring their kits home on Fridays.
