Who is allowed to collect children and/or drop them off at school
Parents/carers can arrange for their child to be brought to school and/or collected by a suitably responsible person, who is over the age of 14. If someone other than a child's parent/carer will be collecting that child on a regular basis, please put this in writing to the school office by emailing them at tonyrywenprm@cardiff.gov.uk.
If someone is collecting a child as a one-off arrangement, please email the school office using the email address shown above, and/or call the school office on 02920 754633 to provide the necessary details.
Walking to and from school on your own
In Ton Tr Ywen, we have been guided by Cardiff Safeguarding Team and the NSPCC in determining that when a child is in Year 6, if a parent/carer feels that their child/children are safe to walk to and from school on their own, in that they:
A parent/carer should confirm this in writing via an email to the main school office, using the email address shown above. Once received, school will then permit this arrangement. Please note that supervision of children does not begin until after 8.45am, therefore children should arrive between 8.45-8.55am for the start of the school day.
Please note, this does not apply to wraparound provisions such as Breakfast Club, After School Clubs, or events that go on after school hours. On these occasions, parents / carers are expected to still arrange for their child to be brought to school and collected by a suitably responsible person, who is over the age of 14.
Bikes and scooters
We always encourage families to travel to school by bike or scooter (and on foot), wherever that is possible. We must, however, ask that all riders dismount and walk their bikes or scooters as soon as they enter the school grounds to reduce the risk to pedestrians and ensure that everyone feels safe and comfortable on site.
E-scooters and E-bikes are not allowed to be ridden on the school site at any time, and children should not be transported on E-scooters or E-bikes for safety reasons. Advise on the safety of these vehicles, and where they can legally be ridden, can be found on the South Wales Police website.
